Jiujiteiras of Oregon Series “Tracy Chapman”
Tracy Chapman is a black belt, and co-owner, of Impact Jiu Jitsu. Impact is headquartered in Beaverton, Oregon, with several locations in the area as well as academies in Arizona, New Mexico, and Hawaii. Tracy got started in the sport when her youngest son Ronan turned four and her (co-owner) husband began a women’s-only class at Impact. Tracy gave it a try and within a week she was hooked. Since then, she has trained Jiu Jitsu for 12 years.
Tracy believes that it is important for everyone to have a passion, and Jiu Jitsu is Tracy’s passion. It makes her feel good to train, even with the bumps and bruises. Tracy recommends BJJ to others because it is an amazing way to keep in shape, enjoy stress relief, learn self-defense, and get to know a great community of like-minded friends. Although she brought home gold as a brown belt at Masters Worlds in 2015, Tracy counts as helping to introduce the sport to other women and men at Impact Jiu Jitsu as being her highest Jiu Jitsu achievement.
Tracy advises other women to set their own goals and pace, and not to compare themselves to others. It is important to “recognize your own personal growth and accomplishments…and take pride in the moves that you’ve made your own”. A couple of videos that Tracy is proud to be a part of include Making an Impact – A Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Documentary (https://youtu.be/4ZvtlfHx5IQ); Bridge City Fight Shop Technique of the Week – No-gi (https://youtu.be/YjIuvGlykQ0); and Bridge City Fight Shop Technique of the Week – Gi (https://youtu.be/LtvWlU6xm7E).
